SR Engineering Ltd was founded in 2017 by Shakir Rashid, P. Eng. The purpose of the company is to provide clients with cost effective solutions to their building envelope needs. Comprised of engineering professionals with more than 30 years of experience, we strive to provide excellence with paramount integrity, security, and economical solutions.

Shakir Rashid

Shakir Rashid is the Principal at SR Engineering with over 32 years of experience in Building Science. He has managed a wide range of building envelope remediation projects across residential, commercial, and government sectors. Mr. Rashid specializes in roofing, waterproofing, and concrete restoration of parkades and has experience with both new construction and litigation projects. A fun fact about him: he’s always chasing sunshine and sand!  While he loves hiking jungle trails for breathtaking views, snowy mountains aren’t on his radar.

William Tran

A resourceful and result-driven Professional Engineer with over 15 years of combined Building Science, and Project Management experience. Mr. Tran has comprehensive and practical experience in wood-framed and concrete structures, building science theories, and building sustainability. Typical project sectors range from multi-family, wood-framed residential homes, mid/high-rise concrete structures, high-end single-family homes, commercial buildings, institutional buildings, company offices, research centers, and airports.

Karen San Pedro

Karen has over 20 years of combined experience in Building Envelope Engineering, Architecture, and Urban Planning. She is a a LEED A.P., is registered with APEGS and ASTTBC, and a registered architect abroad. Karen has been a key team member on building envelope remediation projects, managing multi-disciplinary scopes ranging from targeted repairs to full rehabilitation for multi-family residential, commercial, institutional, and municipal buildings. She brings extensive experience in developing building envelope design packages for building envelope remediation projects pursuing performance and energy-efficiency upgrades.

Outside of work, Karen is passionate about racquet sports—when her knees cooperate.

Hossein Mirzaghafour

Hossein is a graduate of a Master of Engineering in Building Science from the British Columbia Institute of Technology (BCIT) and a licensed home inspector through Consumer Protection BC. He is a project manager and building envelope consultant with over 12 years of engineering experience, primarily in the field of Building Science. Hossein has been the building envelope consultant for more than 200 new construction projects including residential (ranging from two-story wood-frame to concrete high-rise), commercial, industrial, and municipal projects as well as several building envelope remediation projects ranging from targeted remediation to full rehabilitation projects in British Columbia. As the coordinating project manager, Hossein works with many engineering disciplines and professional technologists in order to address the project concerns.

Shafin Rehman

Shafin gained experience in the construction industry through his internships with Exp. Services and Seaspan during his studies. As an Engineer-in-Training since 2020, his involvement with numerous projects strengthened his ability to be a solid project coordinator and team player. At SR Engineering, he is involved in residential building envelope remediation, restoration projects, targeted areas for remediation, and full rehabilitation projects. When not at the office, you can find Shafin hiking or camping on a mountain, biking around town or tinkering with his car.

Yaxing Yang

Yaxing obtained his bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering at UBC in November 2019. Before joining SR in December 2022, he worked as a Structural EIT for over two years, gaining technical drawing and structural analysis experience for temporary and residential structures. In September 2022, Yaxing started the Master of Engineering in Building Science at BCIT through his part-time studies and focused on Building Envelope design and remediation techniques. In January 2024, he begins with the Passive House Designer Training. Mr.Yang has supported SR technically by delivering detailed drawings in AutoCAD and performing field reviews for several envelope remediation projects since his employment with SR. Throughout his career, Yaxing has been involved in projects related to exterior wall remediation, exterior cladding repair, roof remediation, and structural restoration in residential and commercial buildings. He can pay attention to detail and has strong technical analysis in both Structural and Building Envelope Remediation.

Mehdi Sayed

Mehdi earned his Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from the University of Mumbai and has 8.5 years of experience in the field. With a background in residential and commercial projects across Mumbai and Dubai, he joined SR Engineering in August 2023 as a project consultant. He oversees remediation projects, conducts field reviews, and supports building maintenance. Mehdi’s proactive approach and expertise ensure innovative solutions and exceed client expectations in civil engineering and construction management. Outside of work, Mehdi can be found spending time with his family or playing video games.

Andrew Burgin

Having graduated from the BCIT Building Science masters program, Andrew joined SR Engineering in September 2023. As project consultant, Andrew is heavily involved throughout project timelines, from investigations and design development, to project admin and fieldwork, spanning a broad range of project types. His interests lie in promoting and implementing sustainable approaches to architecture and urban design, particularly in development of resillient, high-performance, net-zero buildings. Outside of work Andrew likes riding bikes, climbing mountains, and eating cake.

Charu Kubendiran

Charu is a Financial Analyst at SR Engineering with 8 years of experience in financial modeling, data analysis, and strategic planning. With a background in managing financial operations for top organizations like Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank and IBM, she excels in budgeting, compliance, and financial reporting. Passionate about driving business insights, she also brings expertise in SAP, Oracle, and financial forecasting.

When not crunching numbers, she enjoys practicing Bharatnatyam, a classical Indian dance form.

Mario Qiu

Mario Qiu holds a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering from UBC (2021) and a Master of Building Science from BCIT (2023). He has experience as a concrete plant production intern and as a field technician specializing in underground waterproofing and building envelope inspections. Since June 2025, he has been with SR Engineering Ltd., applying his technical skills to deliver quality building science solutions. Outside of work, Mario enjoys the gym, hiking, and snowboarding.
